Hen and Hare Microfarm with APIS LLC
Ammon + Jess
We moved to our microfarm in 2017. Located in South Boise, it's just under two acres. We manage pasture, garden and food forests, barns and our home. We hope that the microfarm can inspire small-acreage owners to make the most of their land.
sustainability
minimal plastic | reusing containers
we use only glass and steel containers, and have a buy-back program for certain jars we are able to safely sterilize and re-use!
pollinator-friendly
our gardens are designed and managed with pollinators in mind, including reduced tillage, tons of flowers, and no harmful sprays used
small-footprint livestock
rabbits in particular have a low environmental impact, but all our livestock benefits the environment it's raised in, instead of degrading it
local and organic sourcing
we search local and organic options first to help benefit our community and environment
reducing our carbon footprint
growing our own herbs, shopping local, and minimizing farm inputs helps reduce emissions from shipping and benefits our own Idaho ecology and farmers
full circle farming
we recycle what we can back into the system, including feeding weeds to rabbits, using their manure in the garden, and mulching with leaves from our trees
